Lots of Socks nets socks, underwear for needy children

The fourth annual Lots of Socks collection netted more than 1,100 pairs of socks and almost 400 pairs of underwear for distribution to area needy children.

The drive is a project of the RSVP 55+ volunteer program in partnership with the Greene County High School National Honor Society. Boxes were placed around the county to accept donations of new socks and underwear. “When budgets get tight, those are the things parents scramble to provide, and they aren’t usually available second hand. We’re glad to help fill that need,” said RVP 55+ volunteer coordinator Jackie Souder.

Diapers and disposable training pants were also donated. Those items will be used at the Greene County Early Learning Center as back-up to what parents provide. The socks and underwear will be distributed to schools and the Kid’s Closet in Churdan, for use at staff discretion.

RSVP 55+ volunteer coordinator Jackie Souder and volunteer leader Anne Butler accept $350 cash for the Lots of Socks project from NHS members Jasmine Mobley, Shelby Cooklin, Sean Kenan, Jake Challen, Karter Ruzicka and Carson Roberts.
